On Being Selfish

Ian (six year old) found to his chagrin that the three children of his parents' friends monopolized the television; they kept him from watching his favorite program. "Mother," he asked in frustration, "why is it better for three children to be selfish than one?"

  1. Perhaps, maybe in this situation, being selfish was not focusing in one person. It was more like a "themfish". Also, in this kind of situation, the three were actually sharing in a sense that by being selfish to the other one.

  2. The reason why three (3) selfish children is better than one (1) because 3 children are benefited not one. If we are going to examine it well, it would be like this:

    A TOTAL OF 4 CHILDREN

3 -> Selfish <-------------- They are not selfish!

1 -> Complainant <----------- This is the real selfish!

Why? Simply because there are 3 of them against 1. If we will analyze it well, it is Ian who is really selfish.

  3. I think in that kind of situation, compromise is the answer. I think it was better to compromise for the better of the majority.

    The Einstein Story:

Genius Albert Einstein, the father of the theory of relativity, was at a banquet one evening and the lady who gave the party asked him to explain "in a few well-chosen words" what the theory of relativity was all about.
He explained it with an example. " I was once walking with a blind man, and remarked that I would like a glass of milk."
"What is milk?' asked my friend.
    "A white liquid.'
"Liquid I know. What is white?'
"The colour of a duck's feathers.'
"Feathers I know. What is a duck?'
"A bird with a crooked neck.'
'Neck I know. But what is crooked?'
Einstein then explained that he took his friend's arm, straightened and then bent it to demonstrate what crooked meant.
"Oh,' said the blind man. 'Now I know what you mean by milk.'
"So," Said Einstein to his hostess, "do you still want to know what relativity is?"

  4. I think that being selfish does not require number...
it is like when you say that
"Selfish ba talaga yung family ni cyrus oh"...
so a family has many members, but still we call them selfish.

No matter how many persons who did not share, I consider them selfish... so it is not better for 3 children to be selfish than one, beacuase they are also selfish.

Being selfish is not good, so why should we say it is BETTER for 3 children to be selfish?
